SINGLE PIECE OF PAPER. HAND WRITTEN LETTER TO RHODA WILKIE GIVING THANKS FOR CLOTHING SENT TO GERMANY DURING WORLD WAR II FROM FITZ SCHMIDT..

22nd September 1948
Mrs. Wilkie,
I' should like, with this letter, my thanks [saying?] for your gift of clothing for us German. I' have got a woolen waistcoat I' am very glad of this present, then I' can them verry (sic) good use for the winter. Your son has self seen what for a miserable life in Germany now is. The biggest evil is the need of hunger the most  men have almost the faith lost on a bedder (sic) time. The fate has mi (sic) and my family hard hit we have everything [illegible]  lost even our home. This district is Polish now and we be obliged all our goods [liave?]. 
I' amyself was 3 1/2 year in England as prisoner  of war ,and I am bak (sic) come last summer I 'am sorry my knowledg (sic) in English is not verry (sic)good ,but I 'hope you can {illegible}my letter But again heartily thanks for your kindness and all best. god bless you and your family yours respectfully Fritz Schmidt 15  Jena  i / Thüringen Bach9tr 18,Klinik,Ziegelzzzzihle Germany -Russian Zone
