Narrative: THE VESSEL JOHN W. MILLER WAS BUILT BY JOHN MCLEAN SHIPYARD, MAHONE BAY AND LAUNCHED IN 1918.  THE VESSEL WAS USED BY J.C. CROSBIE LTD. OF ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND IN THE SOUTH AMERICAN TRADE.  IT SANK IN HEAVY WEATHER ON DECEMBER 30, 1931 BUT THE CREW WAS RESCUED BY A PASSING GERMAN VESSEL.

THE MCLEAN SHIPYARD WAS FOUNDED IN 1865 IN MAHONE BAY, N.S. BY JOHN MCLEAN.  MCLEAN OPERATED FOUR VESSELS IN THE FISHING AND SHIPPING INDUSTRIES.  JOHN MCLEAN'S TWO SONS CHARLES AND WILLIAM EVENTUALLY JOINED THE COMPANY IN 1882 AND 1897 RESPECTIVELY, AND WHEN JOHN MCLEAN DIED IN 1910, THEY CARRIED ON THE BUSINESS. JOHN MCLEAN'S SON WILLIAM CARRIED ON THE BUSINESS UNTIL 1961.
Description: NEW SHIPYARD OF JOHN MCLEAN & SONS, MAHONE BAY, WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN 1917. THIS WAS FORMERLY THE JOHN H. ZWICKER YARD. THE VESSEL "JOHN W. MILLER" IS BEING PREPARED FOR LAUNCHING, OUTSIDE THE "MCLEAN CONSTRUCTION CO. LTD." BOAT SHOP.
History of Use: TAKEN TO DOCUMENT NEW SHIPYARD IN MAHONE BAY.
