Use unknown.  There are two inscriptions on the bottom.  One was made by Syd "Syd Gosley repaired in 1993; Aeolian Zither (Box) Type; French/German origin; Tambourin de Bearn, circa 1800"  The second inscription is much older and in Latin and reads, "Hane Aeoli Citharam, ex forma me praebicus, adificavil Joannes Urquhartus, Portobelli, Junio, 1833; JG "
