Rug

Accession number: 2006.043.006
Category: Floor covering
Date: before 2006
Materials: Fibre
Measurements: 95 cm L x 82 cm W
Narrative: The rugs made by Mary Catherine MacDonald Sommers were from rags and old clothing she coloured herself with commercial dyes.
Description:

This nearly squared off rug has 10 squares along the length of it and 8 along the width for 80 squares in total. These squares alternate between colourful horizontal and vertical stripes to make a weaved look. Although it would seem some of the squares are mismatched so the weave effect is lost in certain areas.

History of Use:

Floor covering used for warmth and decorative purposes in a home.
